Operations Specialist

St. Joseph County Airport Authority (SJCAA) is seeking an enthusiastic, forward thinking individual for the position of Operations Specialist.  This position is primarily responsible for supporting the Airport Authority’s mission, vision and values.

This position promotes the safety and security of airport users by ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations, Transportation Security Regulations as well as all other applicable statutes, regulations and requirements. Main duties include monitoring all airside and landside activity, responding to emergent and non-emergent operational issues, airfield condition reporting, and acting as liaison amongst airport management, tenants and the public.  All employees are expected to be part of our customer service team as Dedicated Customer Care Specialists.

A Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, business administration, or a related field is preferred; or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of two years of work experience at a commercial airport.  Ability to pass a 10-year background and Criminal History Records Check required.  Valid Driver’s License Required.

Weekends, holidays and shift work required. Starting wage is $17.50 per hour.

Maintenance Worker/Mechanic with ASE II Certification

South Bend International Airport is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Maintenance Worker/Mechanic in our Maintenance Department.  This position performs a variety of tasks including maintenance, repairs, alterations and modifications of buildings, equipment and systems, roadways and grounds maintenance, and snow removal using a variety of equipment.  Candidates should have demonstrated experience in mechanical, electrical and/or heavy equipment operation as well as building maintenance.

We require a high school diploma or equivalent with emphasis on technical or shop courses.  This is a full-time position that may involve shift work, weekends and holidays as necessary.  A valid driver’s license is required.  The ability to pass a criminal history and up to 10-year employment background checks is required.

Mechanic with ASE II Certification will focus on:

  • Maintenance/repair of all small engine equipment
  • Maintenance/repair of all fleet vehicles
  • Maintenance/repair of all snow removal equipment/vehicles
  • Maintenance/repair of all on site generators/maintenance/repairs/weekly checks
  • Maintenance/repairs of fuel delivery systems and equipment/weekly level checks
  • Maintain/inventory mechanic shop supplies/materials for vehicles including oils/lubricants
  • Certifications preferred; ASE A1-9 Series: Cars & Light trucks and T1-8 Series: Medium-Heavy Trucks
  • Must maintain ASE certifications

Approved hourly pay rate, $18.32 plus $2.51 if ASE Certified

Maintenance Worker/HVAC Technician

South Bend International Airport is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Maintenance Worker/HVAC Technician in our Maintenance Department.  This position performs a variety of tasks including maintenance, repairs, alterations and modifications of buildings, equipment and systems, roadways and grounds maintenance, and snow removal using a variety of equipment.  Expectations will also include the inspection, cleaning, repair and monitoring of all heating and air conditioning equipment.  This would include monitoring heat pumps, maintaining the cooling tower, monitoring chiller pressures and Freon recovery.   Candidates should have demonstrated experience in mechanical, electrical and/or heavy equipment operation as well as building maintenance.

We require a high school diploma or equivalent with emphasis on technical or shop courses and 3-5 years HVAC experience. HVAC Certification and experience in use of computer programs is also preferred.  This is a full-time position that may involve shift work, weekends and holidays as necessary.  A valid driver’s license is required.  The ability to pass a criminal history and up to 10-year employment background checks is required.

HVAC Technician will focus on:

  • Monitor and Maintain HVAC System.
  • Repair and troubleshoot defective HVAC Units.
  • Maintain Filter replacement program.
  • Repair system leaks (Freon, glycol, water and air).
  • Maintain water supply (Booster pumps, cooling towers, etc.).
  • Coordinate/escort contractor activities.
  • Perform Backflow prevention maintenance.
  • Monitor/ Navigate Building Management System (Trane system).
  • Maintain Freon Recovery certificate.
  • Work with supervisor to determine preventative plans, life cycle analysis, and potential efficiencies

Approved hourly pay rate, $18.32 plus $2.06 if HVAC Certified

Maintenance Worker/Carpenter

South Bend International Airport is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Maintenance Worker/Carpenter in our Maintenance Department.  This position performs a variety of tasks including maintenance, repairs, alterations and modifications of buildings, equipment and systems, roadways and grounds maintenance, and snow removal using a variety of equipment.  Candidates should have demonstrated experience in mechanical, electrical and/or heavy equipment operation as well as building maintenance.

We require a high school diploma or equivalent with an emphasis on technical or shop courses.  This is a full-time position will be scheduled for second-shift hours, weekends and holidays as necessary.  A valid driver’s license is required.  The ability to pass criminal history and up to 10-year employment and background checks is required.

Carpentry experience should include:

  • Ability to use carpentry hand tools
  • Install and build cabinets and shelving
  • Finnish trim work
  • Build metal and wood walls
  • Set windows and door frames
  • Install carpet
  • Install floor tile
  • Drywall repair and paint
  • Install and repair suspended ceiling
  • Ability to read and build from blue print drawings
  • Ability to build a project material list
  • Estimate project duration and man-hours
  • Journeyman certificate preferred

Approved hourly pay rate, $18.32.
