Detroit

Sports and leisure abound in Detroit, Michigan but the fun does not stop there. With multiple flights daily to DTW on Delta from SBN, you are just one flight away from what Thrillist calls one of “America’s Most Fun Cities”. With something for every art fanatic, nature lover and shopaholic, Detroit does not disappoint.

In the “Motor City”, you can find far more than just the cars the city was built for. You can fill your days with adventurous kayak rides, some of the best pizza in the country and endless entertainment at almost every corner of the city. There are plenty of reasons to make Detroit your next go to destination, and once you visit, you’ll want to come back time and time again. Or, if you are just passing through on a connecting flight, Detroit Metro offers a taste of the Motor City.

Food

When people think of classic Detroit-style pizza, they’re thinking of Buddy’s Pizza. This classic staple of Detroit has been around since 1946 and they have perfected the classic square-baked pizza. Their original store on the corner of Six Mile Road and Conant Street still serves up fresh slices of pizza every day. Not only do people think of square pizza, but “America’s Comeback City” is also renowned for cherries. For some of the best cherry pie in the city, Sister Pie is the place to stop at. Just make sure to check their current menu, they only use cherries from local farms so the pie is seasonal! And, for some of the most instaworthy backdrops, foods and drinks, be sure to plan your trip around Chartreuse Kitchen & Cocktails. Your Instagram feed will thank you later.

Entertainment

Concerts abound in Detroit, namely at Little Caesars Arena. From Khalid to Shawn Mendes to the Backstreet Boys, make sure to check ahead of your trip so you don’t miss your favorite artist. If you want more art to fill your days in Detroit, plan to spend a day at the Eastern Market for their Murals in the Market tours (though you can easily walk through the Market on your own). You’ll get to see some of the most amazing street art in the state, and, it’s free! Finish your trip off with a visit to Motor City Brewing Works, where history and “handcrafter superior quality beer” collide. Motor City Brewing Works is also only blocks away from the homes of the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers (Ford Field and Comerica Park).

Sports

Few cities boast the number of sports teams that Detroit does, and it is the only U.S. city to have its MLB (Tigers), NFL (Lions), NBA (Pistons) and NHL (Red Wings) teams all play downtown. With an abundance of loyal hockey fans, Detroit was dubbed “Hockeytown” and even given the nickname “City of Champions” in the 1930s. With all of the championship winning teams Detroit boasts, you’ll have sports entertainment no matter what season you visit.

Explore Outdoors

From “The Whole Shebang” to the “Dequindre Cut Ride”, Detroit Segway Tours offer a variety of tours that vary from 1.5 hours to 3 hours and let you experience some of the most beautiful parts of Detroit. And, don’t let the winter weather scare you away! You can go on the “Downtown Holiday Lights Tour” to take in the holiday charm that lights up the city. Wyandotte, Michigan boasts Metro Detroit’s premier paddling shop: Riverside Kayak Connection. Here, you have access to kayaks, paddling accessories, tours, classes and events. RKC even offers a “Detroit Full Moon Tour” where guests experience unbeatable views on the water of the sun setting over the Detroit skyline.
