Full-Scale Airport Emergency Preparedness Exercise

WHAT: FULL-SCALE AIRPORT EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EXERCISE

WHEN: Wednesday, September 20, 2017

8:15 a.m. Media arrive at Public Safety Building

All media must be escorted. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

8:20 – 9:00 a.m. Interviews and b-roll of moulage

9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Drill begins

SkyWest Airlines is providing a CRJ200 fifty seat aircraft for use during the drill to create the most realistic experience for all responders involved. The airline continues to demonstrate its commitment to safety by allowing us to utilize their aircraft for this drill.

The drill is expected to be complete by noon. The airfield will remain fully operational with flights arriving and departing as scheduled throughout the drill.

WHERE: South Bend International Airport Public Safety Building
4821 Lincoln Way West, South Bend

All media will be escorted to the scene of the mock emergency on the southwest side of the airfield. Media will remain under escort for the duration of the time on the airfield. Because of this, late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

WHY: Every three years the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires airports to test emergency response systems in coordination with local emergency service providers.

WHO: St. Joseph County Airport Authority emergency responders, St. Joseph County Emergency Management, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Beacon Health System’s Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph County Health Department, South Bend Fire Department, Clay Fire Territory, Penn Township Fire Department, Mishawaka Fire, Southwest Central Fire Territory, Notre Dame Fire Department, South Bend Police Department, St. Joseph County Police Department, American Red Cross, Memorial MedFlight, St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office, St. Joseph County Dispatch Center, FBI, TSA, FAA, Corporate Wings, SkyWest Airlines, TRANSPO, multiple EMS responders and other emergency agencies.
