Medically fragile children and Veterans need a bit more holiday cheer than your average person during what should be the most wonderful time of year. You can help spread that extra holiday cheer by participating in South Bend International Airport’s Bears in the Air program.
Since we started this annual event more than 10 years ago, more than 17,000 bears have found a home in the arms of children in South Bend-area hospitals and more than $86,600 has been raised for local Veterans.
Join us for our 12th Annual Bears in the Air Kick-Off Party! On Friday, Dec. 1st, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., we hope to see you and your family, friends, and colleagues in our main terminal. That’s where we’ll raise the funds to give brand new teddy bears to children in hospitals who need the comfort and joy of the holiday season, as well as support Veterans who have fought for our country.
Admission is $35 at the door. The cost of admission pays for bears for children staying in Beacon Children’s Hospital, Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital, Elkhart General Hospital, Saint Joseph Health System, and A Rosie Place for Children, and a portion of those funds will be donated to Robert L. Miller Sr. Veterans Center.
You can reserve a table of 10 in advance for $450, which is a wise choice since tables are based on availability. Reservations must be made by November 17th – call Julie Curtis at (574) 800-3230 to secure your spot.
While donating to a good cause is the reason for the event, there are other details to look forward to as well. At the Bears in the Air Kick-Off Party, expect small plates, cocktails, music, and some amazing door prizes including roundtrip airfare from Allegiant, Delta, and United.
This event is open to all adults 21 and over. Attendees should park in the long-term parking lot and your parking will be validated.
If you can’t make it, though, there is still a way for you to contribute online! Please consider making a minimum donation of $35 before Dec. 15th through our GiveGrove site.
The more money we raise, the more smiles we spread throughout our community this holiday season.
